The din of the city and immediate traffic seems more dominant in this recording than the music strain. The emphasis (what one listens to) could be changed with editing. For example, one could establish a less busy section at the beginning and then cross-fade into the music drifting by and then cross fade into another less busy section. Half of the recording now is a car passing.
You seem to be "foregrounding" sound objects. Space is as important in stereo sound recording as it is in dance.
If this is true, rather than listen for discrete sound/objects (which are sort of like stationary "body positions" in a dance) take in the whole space-- the movement, the flow, the relations.
